58 —  The New York Jets capped off an amazing 1968 season by winning Super Bowl III following Joe Namath’s infamous guaranteed victory over the 18-point favorite Baltimore Colts.

42 — The New York Islanders won four straight Stanley Cups from 1979-1983, but haven’t been back to the finals since they passed the baton to Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier’s Edmonton Oilers in 1984.

27 — As of May 25, 2026, at 6:13p, it has been 27 years since the 1998-99 New York Knicks reached, and lost in the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs 4 games to 1.

23 — Nine years before moving to Brooklyn, the New Jersey Nets rode Jason Kidd’s leadership and playmaking skills to back-to-back NBA Finals in 2001-02 and 2002-03.

15 — The New York Giants were a .500 team heading into a Christmas Eve showdown with the New York Jets. They never lost again, winning their fourth Super Bowl, and securing Eli Manning his second Super Bowl MVP.

14 — 39-year-old Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur took the 2011-12 New Jersey Devils on one last ride to the Stanley Cup Finals before losing to the Los Angeles Kings.

11 — Shockingly, it’s already been 11 years since Matt Harvey convinced Terry Collins to leave him in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series. Unfortunately, the New York Mets lost the game and the series, and Harvey never regained his “Dark Knight” magic again.

2 — The New York Liberty are less than two seasons removed from defeating the Minnesota Lynx 3 game to 2 to win their first WNBA Championship in 2024.

2 — The New York Yankees made the World Series for the 41st time in 2024 prior to losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
