About Sports Rant New York

Our Why

Talking sports. Nothing beats it. And name a better sports town than New York. Please don’t say Boston. Yeah, they’ve won more championships recently, but at the end of the day, when the game is over, you still live in Boston. New York is the center of the world… we have more diversity, more culture, more options and a lot more teams. Sports in New York is ubiquitous, and talking sports is essentially like breathing. It’s what we do.

Our History

SportsRantNY. We came up with the name in 2007 and put up a website for a couple of years. It was fun, but life got busy. On September 5, 2010 we sent out our first tweet and in 2017 we became an LLC. But there was software to sell and bills to pay. That changed in 2024, and now, as the trademark application says, we’re ready to provide sports information with a primary focus on professional sports and athletes in the NYC Metropolitan Area.

Our Mission

Serve the NYC Metropolitan Area sports fans by building a sports media brand that blends a fan’s sensibilities with traditional journalistic values.

OUR INSPIRATION

SportsRantNY is dedicated to the memory of Aunt Renee. Without her divine intervention, and the help of some heroes at Palisades Center Ice Rink in Nyack, this website would not be possible. Aunt Renee taught our family empathy, toughness and unconditional love. She was always our biggest fan, our inspiration and now the guardian angel that watches over us every day.

Our Founder

Sports Media has been a part of our founder’s life since he programmed WPTV Channel 18 in his basement at the age of 8. The only time he was sent to the principal’s office in High School was because he was “talking too much about sports” in the back of Miss Hamilton’s class. He followed Marv Albert, one of his idols, to Syracuse University where he wrote for the Daily Orange and planned on pursuing a career in sports journalism. But then, he caught the “radio bug” at Syracuse University’s student-owned and operated radio station WJPZ-FM (Z89), which led him on an amazing odyssey in radio (including WQHT-FM HOT 97 New York) and radio targeted technology (PromoSuite). 38 years later, he’s decided to go back to where he started. Talking sports.
