SUBWAY SERIES STALEMATE
From Juan Soto’s boisterous and much criticized return to the Bronx in May, to the spiraling Yankees salvaging a game in Queens in July, the 2025 regular season Subway Series finished all-square.
May 16, 2025 – Yankees 6 Mets 2 (Yankee Stadium)
May 17, 2025 – Mets 3 Yankees 2 (Yankee Stadium)
May 18, 2025 – Yankees 8 Mets 2 (Yankee Stadium)
July 4, 2025 – Mets 6 Yankees 5 (Citi Field)
July 5, 2025 – Mets 12 Yankees 6 (Citi Field)
July 6, 2025 – Yankees 6 Mets 4 (Citi Field)
Ironically, it was the four players acquired by the Yankees after they were jilted by Soto who were today’s (July 6) stars in the New York Yankees 6-4 series tying win against the New York Mets.
Max Fried got his 11th win, Devin Williams his 12th save, Paul Goldschmidt two hits and a web gem, and Cody Bellinger made the play of the game with a shoestring seventh inning catch in left – followed by a strike to first to double up Francisco Lindor.
Bellinger’s game-saving play was off the bat of – Juan Soto.
JUDGE VS SOTO SUPERSTAR SHOWDOWN
Juan Soto is on record saying Aaron Judge is the best hitter in the game, but despite Soto’s all-star snub, the back of Soto’s baseball card and correspondingly spectacular contract puts him in the same conversation. Neither was at their best in this season’s six game series, and their final numbers are remarkably similar:
JUDGE | SOTO | |
H: | 6 | 5 |
AB: | 24 | 21 |
2B: | 1 | 1 |
3B: | 0 | 0 |
HR: | 2 | 1 |
RBI: | 4 | 3 |
BB: | 4 | 5 |
K: | 9 | 6 |
SB: | 0 | 2 |
AVE: | .250 | .238 |
ICYMI “4 Things About the Yankees 5 Game Losing Streak”
SUBWAY STARS IN MID-SUMMER CLASSIC
MLB’s All-Star Game will be held Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park, the home of the Atlanta Braves. Six local players will represent New York.
Mets
Francisco Lindor, SS (starter)
Pete Alonso, 1B (reserve)
Edwin Diaz, P (reserve)
Yankees
Aaron Judge, RF (starter)
Jazz Chisholm, 2B (reserve)
Max Fried, P (reserve)
While Soto was the biggest snub for the Mets, Carlos Rodon was the most notable omission for the Yankees. Unfortunately for Rodon, despite giving up only 8 earned runs in his last four games, the Yankees are just 1-3 over that span.
SECOND HALF OUTLOOK
If the season ended today, the Mets and Yankees would finish the season in second place in their respective divisions, and hold the top wild card seeding in their respective leagues. However, both teams have been struggling since they concluded the May version of the Subway Series, with the Mets going 23-21 and the Yankees 22-22 in that span.
A return to form from C Francisco Alvarez would benefit the Mets, while importing 2B or 3B (Chisholm would then move back to 2B) would benefit the Yankees. However, my real take is that both teams could succeed in October with no changes to their lineup. However, injuries have decimated both pitching staffs, so that’s where David Stearns and Brian Cashman need to focus prior to the July 31 6p ET trade deadline.
If the GMs succeed, and the teams get healthy, perhaps these two teams will play each other again in 2025.

I remain hopeful that we’ll have a Yankees vs Mets World Series this year.
