The New York Knicks are one win from an NBA championship, and they deserve every ounce of credit for getting here. They stared down double-digit deficits in all four Finals games, never quit, and somehow found a way to win three of them. They are not a collection of superstars, but their resiliency, grit, and mental toughness have been remarkable.

But let’s also be honest, the Knicks have not played a complete game in this series. Now, if this run ends with a chip, no one will care. They will get their parade up the Canyon of Heroes and each member of the team — one through 15 — will be treated as NYC royalty for the rest of their lives.

But we know there is more.

The version of this team that ripped through Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Cleveland during an 11-game playoff heater hasn’t shown up for a full 48 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs.

For instance, here’s how each of the first quarters ended:

With the MSG Miracle in the rear-view mirror, the Knicks will need a better start tonight if they want to finish off the Spurs on their home court (8:30p ET, ABC-TV).

One good game. One complete game. One game where the Knicks look like the team we’ve watched for most of this postseason. Do that, and they’ll be bringing more than memories back to New York. They’ll be bringing home a championship.
