Last week we bet on Joe Douglas and went down with the ship, dropping our season record to 10-11. Mercifully, the New York Jets have the week off, so we have one shot to get our record back to .500.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) at New York Giants (2-8)
Sunday 1p CBS
It’s that time of the year again, when downtrodden NFL teams have an emotional split with their fans. Giants’ fans are rooting for the losses to pile up, so the Giants will have the best chance to secure the quarterback of their dreams in next spring’s NFL Draft. However, Giants players and coaches’ careers are on the line, so they will still be striving for elusive wins. That’s why the NFL must seriously consider a draft lottery. Alas, that’s a rant for another day.

Tampa Bay is coming into MetLife on a 4-game losing streak, but they are still in the NFC South race being only 1 ½ games behind the Atlanta Falcons. Defensively, they are banged up in the secondary. Todd Bowles team hasn’t given up less than 23 points since week 2, and they rank 27th overall in points given up per game and 30th overall in yards given up per game. While that might make it seem as if this is a soft-landing spot for Tommy DeVito to get a win, keep in mind that the Baker Mayfield can put up points. The Bucs are averaging 27.9 points per game (5th in the league) and have scored 31, 26, 24 and 20 in their losing streak.

While the Bucs are battling for their season, the Giants have moved on to 2025. Evaluations start on Sunday, and it’ll be interesting to see how Brian Daboll deploys DeVito and the passing game. Special shout-out to Daniel Jones for the way he handled his six years in New York. Quarterback is the toughest position to play in professional sports, and this is the toughest market to play in.  On the field he had more downs than ups, but off the field he was a stand-up guy.
