We head into The New York Jets Mock 2025 NFL Draft (2.0) more confused about who may, or may not, be available when the Jets are on the clock at #7. However, as we wrote in the “2025 New York Jets NFL Draft Guide”, we are very clear about their shopping list. The Jets still need three starters on offense (RT, TE, WR) and two on defense (DT, S). There are internal candidates, but most of them profile as depth pieces.

Mock 2.0 is created using Pro Football Network’s “NFL Draft Simulator”. The simulator makes all picks, except for the Jets. Yours truly will make those.

The Simulator’s First Six Picks

  1. Tennessee Titans select Cam Ward, QB, Miami (FL)
  2. Cleveland Browns select Will Campbell, OT, LSU
  3. New York Giants select Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
  4. New England Patriots select Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars select Armand Membou, OT, Missouri
  6. Las Vegas Raiders select Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

The Jets Are On The Clock
The danger of the simulator is that a situation will arise that you deem unfathomable. Staring at Mason Graham (DT, Michigan) one of three players we’ve deemed the draft’s safest picks (along with Hunter and Carter), we got a phone call from our neighbors at MetLife. Shockingly, the New York Giants, with their eyes on teaming Hunter with his college teammate Shedeur Sanders, offered a trade package that I simply could not refuse. Let’s go to the podium and commissioner Roger Goodell… “The New York Jets trade the 7th overall selection in 2025 NFL Draft, to the New York Giants in exchange for the 34th and 65th selections in this year’s draft, plus the Giants first, second and third round selections in 2026. The Giants are now on the clock”.

The odds of that blockbuster happening are probably slim, but if that type of offer comes to the Jets GM Darren Mougey, he will have to pull the trigger. What better way to put your stamp on the roster than acquiring 5 premium (defined as first three rounds) draft picks for one. Plus, if Justin Fields disappoints in 2025, you’ll have extra picks to maneuver in the 2026 draft that is expected to be deeper at QB. As it turns out, that was the only enticing trade offer that came our way, so we stayed put and started to add depth and competition to the roster.

New York Jets Mock 2.0

  1. 2nd Round (34th overall) Mason Taylor, TE, LSU
  2. 2nd Round (42nd overall) Josh Conerly, Jr, OT, Oregon
  3. 3rd Round (65th overall) TJ Sanders, DT, South Carolina
  4. 3rd Round (73rd overall) Harold Fannin, Jr, TE, Bowling Green
  5. 4th Round (110th overall) Jaylin Lane, WR, Virginia Tech
  6. 5th Round (145th overall) Sebastian Castro, S, Iowa
  7. 5th Round (162nd overall) Nick Nash, WR, San Jose State
  8. 6th Round (186th overall) Howard Cross III, DT, Notre Dame
  9. 6th Round (207th overall) Ryan Fitzgerald, K, Florida State

 Final Thoughts
The selection that probably needs an explanation is taking Fannin, Jr. with the 73rd selection after taking Taylor at 34 overall. We decided that rather reaching for a WR, we would take a unique pass catcher, who set the record for receptions and receiving yards for tight ends in 2024 with 117 receptions and 1555 yards. He’s more of a large (6’4”, 230 pounds) receiver than a prototypical tight end. Aaron Glenn said recently that the Jets are interested in bringing in good football players, and they will design their schemes around their talent, rather than the other way around. Taylor and Fannin, Jr. on the field together could be a matchup nightmare for defenses.

Finally, there have been reports that veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein is going to be a post-June 1st cap casualty, which was the impetus to select his potential successor late in the 6th round.
