Mac’s Picks is finishing the NFL football season strong, going 8-4 in the playoffs on the Moneyline, and a perfect 3-0 against the spread with our weekly best bets. Now, it’s time for our Super Bowl 59 prediction.

Kansas City Chiefs (15-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (14-3)
Sunday 6:30p FOX
The Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to become the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls, and the first professional sports team to win 4 championships in 5 years since the 1996-2000 New York Yankees. They have the best QB on the planet, a top 5 all-time TE, a top 10 all-time HC, and their most recognizable fan is one of the most recognizable women in the world. The Chiefs enter the Super Bowl having won 17 consecutive one possession games dating back to 2023. Seemingly, they are a team of destiny.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles had a slightly bumpier road back to the Super Bowl. In 2022, in Jalen Hurts second year as a full-time starter, they also went 14-3 and then rolled over the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers before facing Kansas City in Super Bowl 57. Hurts overcame a Q2 fumble that was returned by the Chiefs for a touchdown to statistically out play Patrick Mahomes. Hurts had 304 yards passing, 70 yards rushing with 4 combined TDs, only to lose 38-35 on a field goal with 8 seconds left.

In 2023, the Eagles seemingly found the solution to the dreaded Super Bowl hangover that befalls many of the runner-up’s, getting out to a 10-1 start before stumbling down the stretch. By the end of last season, and again early this season, there were calls for HC Nick Sirianni’s job. However, they won 12 of their last 13 games behind the league’s top defense (they gave up the least yards at 278.4 per game and the second least points at 17.8 per game), and a top 10 offense led by the dual-threat Hurts and Saquon Barkley.

Barkley was a revelation since arriving as a free agent from the Eagles arch-rival Giants. At the age of 27, he finished 3rd in the league MVP voting and had his most impactful season combining for 2760 yards and 20 TDs:

  • 2005 rushing yards and 13 TDs in the regular season.
  • 278 receiving yards and 2 TDs in the regular season.
  • 442 rushing yards and 5 TDs in the post-season.
  • 35 receiving yards in the post-season.

It makes me wonder who is really the team of destiny? The Chiefs are favorite by 1 ½ points and we assume it will be another one-possession game. Mac’s Picks is 3-0 against the spread in these playoffs. All 3 wins were with the Eagles. We see no reason to change now. #FlyEaglesFly.
