On October 19, these teams were a combined 1-13. The Miami Dolphins owned the only win, which, naturally, came against the New York Jets. Since then, these rivals have staged mini turnarounds, playing better football and ruining their draft position.

The Dolphins come into today’s matchup having won four of their last five, while the Jets have given Aaron Glenn the first three wins of his head coaching career. However, today is less about football, and more about fashion.

Confused? Well, let’s take you back to August 28, when both teams were 0-0 with high hopes for the season. On that day, the Jets announced that they will “pay homage to their history” by wearing their brand-new “Gotham City Football” Rivalries uniform when they host the Dolphins in December. That day is finally here.

“It quickly became evident that Gotham City Football was an obvious direction for us to take with the Rivalry uniform,” said Chris Pierce, vice president of fan commerce for the Jets. “The story influenced our colorways – our green being treated with a filter that reflects the hazy, steamy, smoky city streets. Adding in Black, Light Iron Ore and Dark Stucco all strong identifying elements of New York City streetscape was an obvious decision. The nod to the iconic NYC manhole pattern on the shoulder and in the background to the plane is uniquely our own and strong imagery that defines the toughness and work ethic of the people who call this great city home.” 

Let’s not forget that when the Dolphins beat the Jets 27-21 on Monday Night Football on September 29, they were debuting their own “Rivalries” jerseys. Today, emboldened by representing Batman’s fictional version of New York City, the Jets will return the favor.
