Los Angeles Rams (8-6) at New York Jets (4-10)

Through 5 weeks, these two teams were struggling. The Jets were a disappointing 2-3 so owner Woody Johnson (or his kids) fired his head coach Robert Saleh. The Jets are 2-7 since and they are getting ready to hire a new GM and coach. The Rams were 1-4 and owner Stan Kroenke did what any owner in the league would do if he had hopes of contending, nothing. His coach Sean McVay has gone 7-2 since and they currently are tied for 1st place in the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks.
Despite their winning ways, these are not your 2021 Rams, as they are the only above .500 team with a negative points differential (they have scored 310 and given up 338). The Rams are 7-4 in one possession games, while the Jets improved to 3-7 with last week’s rare comeback victory against Jacksonville. Expect another close one.

New York Giants (2-12) at Atlanta Falcons (7-7)

In the 4 games since the Giants pulled the plug on the Daniel Jones Era, their leading passers have been Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock, Drew Lock again and Tim Boyle. This week, it’s back to Drew Lock. None of these QB’s are (lower case “l”) locks to be back in 2025 as the Giants will need to reboot the entire offense with or without Brian Daboll.
On the other side of the field, the Falcons shocked the league when they drafted Michael Penix, Jr. 8th overall just a few weeks after signing free agent QB Kirk Cousins to a 4-year, $180m contract. The Falcons vision was to contend for a couple of years and then let Penix compete for the job. Well, you know what they say about best laid plans. After starting 6-3, the Falcons dropped 4 straight, prior to squeaking by Las Vegas last week in Cousins’ worst outing of the year. With the playoffs on the line, Penix will make his first start, giving this late December game some juice nationally.
