Last week we made the mistake of having faith in both local teams, dropping our overall record to 10-10. Mercifully, the New York Giants have the week off.
Indianapolis Colts (4-6) at New York Jets (3-7)
Sunday 1p CBS
The Jets Miserable Mystery Tour continues Sunday 1p at MetLife Stadium, where tickets are currently selling for as low as $22 per seat (for a National Football League game). That’s just another embarrassment in a season that went downhill 5 games into the season when The Ambassador Woody Johnson pulled the plug on Robert Saleh. The Jets were 2-3, and not yet clicking on offense, but defensively the Saleh/Jeff Ulbrich unit was playing at their normal Top 5 level giving up just 17 points and 255.8 yards per game.
How’s the defense doing in the 5 games since Saleh was escorted out of the building by security, and Ulbrich has had to split his time among all three units? They are giving up 25.8 ppg (8.8 more) and 348.8 ypg (93 more). More importantly, the Jets have won only once and are better positioned for the NFL draft than the NFL playoffs.
Across the field, the Colts come in on a three-game losing streak, which has led to Anthony Richardson regaining the starting QB job back from Joe Flacco. Unfortunately, that ruined the “Ancient QB” storyline of seeing 39-year-old Flacco face 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers. Richardson has struggled with injuries and accuracy in his 1+ seasons, but he is a threat to run like last week’s Jets killer Kyler Murray. Richardson (242 yards in 6 games) and Jonathan Taylor (616 yards in 7 games) will challenge the Jets 26th ranked rushing defense.
The good news for those of you holding tickets, or considering plunking down $22, is that the game is a rematch of Super Bowl III, it’s projected to be 63 degrees and sunny, and it’s a 1p game so you will be home by dinner. Personally, I’m going to pass.
