Our assumption is that Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey slept well last night after selecting Armand Membou with their first draft choice since ascending to the top of the New York Jets organization.

Membou is the perfect first pick. He fills a tremendous need and completes an offensive line that now boasts three recent first-round picks, a second-round pick, and a quality free agent pick-up. Plus, unlike the other top tackle prospects, many of whom primarily played LT in college, Membou has spent the past three seasons starting at RT. The pick was universally applauded and considered safe – and there’s nothing wrong with making a “safe” pick.

Finally, conventional wisdom surrounding this draft pool is that it would be easier to find starters for the Jets’ other needs (DT, S, TE, WR2) beyond the first round, than finding a OT on Day Two that could start immediately.

For instance, I would love to see a TE/S, or S/TE combo on Day Two. Here’s two scenarios:

#42 (Round 2) – Mason Taylor, TE, LSU

#73 (Round 3) – Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame

-or-

#42 (Round 2) – Kevin Winston, Jr, S, Penn State

#73 (Round 3) – Harold Fannin, Jr, TE, Bowling Green

The Jets could then look to DTs (i.e. Deon Walker, Kentucky) and WRs (i.e. our favorite, Savion Williams, TCU) on Day 3.

All day the question I was asked if I would want Sheduer Sanders. The answer is no. I think he’ll be a good pro, but I’m all in on giving Justin Fields a chance. Bringing in Sanders, like bringing back Rodgers, would only invite chaos. Glenn and Mougey have made it clear they will steer away from that vibe.

The NFL Draft Day Two continues tonight at 7p ET on ESPN. Here’s the “Best Available” at each of the Jets’ remaining needs as laid out on ESPN.com.
