Mac’s Picks split last week and is now 5-3 on the season. The Jets and Giants are both underdogs this weekend trying to get back in the win column.

New York Jets (2-2) “at” Minnesota Vikings (4-0) in London
Sunday 9:30am NFL Network (CBS New York)

The Jets offensive line was praised after back-to-back wins against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, but last week they allowed Aaron Rodgers to be sacked 5 times and hit 15 times in their shocking loss to the Denver Broncos. Rodgers looked spry against the Patriots but limped badly off the field against the Broncos. Simply put, keeping Rodgers upright is the key to the Jets chances to right the ship against the surprisingly undefeated, Sam Darnold led Vikings on Sunday morning in London.

Considering the dichotomy of these Vikings stats, they lead the league in sacks with 17 through 4 games, yet they are last in the league in passing yards against with 274.3 per game, the importance of protecting Rodgers is magnified. Those stats, good and bad, are padded because the Vikings have had big leads in 3 of their 4 games.

It’s week 5, old-school preseason is over, it’s time for the Jets to assert themselves if they truly want to be considered contenders in the AFC. We’re looking for them to come out with the energy that was lacking last week, and with bounceback performances from Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. If the Jets can put Darnold in a position of where he’s the one playing from behind, it will make “Sunday morning breakfast with the Jets” a fun experience for their fans.
Mac’s Pick – Jets 24 Vikings 17

New York Giants (1-3) at Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Sunday 4:25pm CBS

The legendary Shorty Mac always warned us to be wary of the Week 5 underdogs, but these are not your Grandfather’s Giants. As a matter of fact, these are not your Giants from last Thursday, as they will take the field Sunday afternoon in Seattle without RB Devin Singletary and all-world rookie wide-out Malik Nabers, who have accounted for 5 of the Giants 6 offensive touchdowns through 4 games.

While the fantasy world is bullish on Giants rookie 5th round draft pick Tyrone Tracy, Jr. (picked up by 37,703 fantasy teams on Yahoo this week), the real world has the Giants a touchdown underdog against Geno Smith and the Seahawks. Smith’s offense is averaging a league best 280.8 yards per game with DK Metcalf leading the way with 366 yards and 2 touchdowns. Injured playmakers, tough building to play in, this is supposed to be a Giants loss, and it will be.
Mac’s Pick – Seahawks 27 Giants 13
